Chicken Dinner Road is Idaho’s newest bluegrass band. In only their second performance together, they won “The Battle of the Bluegrass Bands” contest held in conjunction with the National Old-Time Fiddlers Contest in Weiser, Idaho in June. The group is a traditional bluegrass act that surrounds itself with the solid, Scruggs-style pickin’ of a very talented banjo player, Bill Cates, from Meridian, Idaho. Fiddler, Carma Phillips brings years of experience in country and old-time music to the band as one of the up and coming bluegrass fiddlers in the northwest. Boise’s own Harry Strang plays a fine bass and provides some good vocal support to the group. Most of Chicken Dinner Road’s vocal strength comes from guitarist Brian Haken and mandolinist Dennis Stokes. Both from Nampa, they have played together as a duet for the last couple of years and compliment each other well. Stokes brings the deep-south influence along with a thick southern accent to the band as the front-man and lead singer. Chicken Dinner Road is currently working on their first album scheduled for release this fall.
